OC Animal Care's Fur-ever Family Event to feature Low-Cost Adoptions TUSTIN, Calif. (September 1, 2020) - OC Animal Care will host the Fur-ever Family event aimed at assisting pet lovers in the community with a pet food giveaway and low-cost adoptions sponsored by Fourth District Supervisor Doug Chaffee of the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
On September 12, OC Animal Care social media platforms will highlight adoptable pets. Families ready to adopt will have the opportunity to virtually sign up for one of one-hundred low-cost adoption vouchers sponsored by Supervisor Chaffee. Vouchers are first-come, first-serve and are limited to one per household for up to one hundred vouchers.
"We support companionship and positive mental health and what better way than to do that while also connecting homeless pets with new families." said Supervisor Doug Chaffee, Fourth District. "We know pets lower anxiety and stress as well as promote healthy habits for people of all ages."
The event will also feature the contactless Family Fur-st Drive Thru Pet Pantry where Supervisor Chaffee and staff will work alongside volunteers to distribute pet food to families in need from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. or while supplies last. This will be the fourth pet food pantry hosted by OC Animal Care in conjunction with community partners Animal Assistance League of Orange County, SoCal Animal Response Team, and The Shamrock Rescue Foundation. To date, the pet food pantry has given out over 7,000 pounds of food to help feed more than 550 pets in Orange County.
"We truly appreciate Supervisor Chaffee for supporting our mission and helping all the pet lovers in the community.” added OC Animal Care Interim Director Andi Bernard. “We hope families join us virtually as we feature pets onsite and in foster homes who are waiting for their perfect match.”
Debra has been holding it down at OCAC since 2016 (a.k.a. the good old days); participating in offsite events and pack walks, playgroups and mentoring prospective volunteers. She truly does. it. all. Debra has a great rapport with her fellow volunteers/staff and is always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she is needed. If you didn’t already know, Debra is somewhat of a small dog whisperer, working to bring our TLC dog out of their shy shells and turning them into adoption success stories! Her work doesn’t stop as the shelter, as she is also registered as a pet foster parent for our needy medical & behavior pups. Debra, you da bomb!
Please join us in celebrating August’s Volunteer of the Month – Debra!

This year OC Animal Care held their annual Kitten Shower virtually on Saturday, July 25th to help teach the community about their lifesaving foster program. During this online presentation, attendees learned about the shelter’s Foster Program, had a chance to “Ask an RVT” kitten related questions, learned bottle-feeding basics, and got to watch an up-close demonstration of a staff member bottle-feeding kittens. All the presentations along with an additional resources page was put together so anyone who watched online could download them beforehand to follow along as OC Animal Care staff were presenting. The Virtual Kitten Shower was held on OC Animal Care’s Facebook and Instagram Live and reached over 2,000 people!
Along with the virtual presentations, OC Animal Care promoted their online Kitten Registry to collect items for incoming kittens that will be a part of the shelter’s foster program. Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR), Miracle Nipples, wet/dry food, cleaning wipes, bottle kits, toys and blankets were among the items that were donated through OC Animal Care’s Amazon Wishlist. In total, the shelter received over $1,000 worth of donations!
OC Animal Care’s first Virtual Kitten Shower was a huge success and they look forward to hosting more online events! Please note that OC Animal Care is currently not accepting any in-person donations at this time.
OC Animal Care is participating in Clear the Shelters 2020 ‘adopt or donate’ campaign! Starting Saturday and through the entire month of August, we will be featuring adoptable pets and asking the community to support our efforts by donating.

Pencils down & eyes on the board…because July’s Volunteer of the month is none other than the engaging educator herself, Ms. Nelson!
Julie’s summer break has been spent as an intern, supporting our fast-paced foster program. In addition to that, she has used her teaching talents to help organize existing programs and create new processes to help the shelter pets. Ms. Nelson even takes on homework (in the form of foster kittens)! From singing silly songs to putting in serious service hours, no task it too below Julie - she is a delight to be around and downright pleasure to work with.
If we had to grade this ‘teach’ she would certainly get an A+! ::class dismissed::
