Congratulations to our December Volunteer of the Month, Jona!

Jona has been an active participant in several new programs the shelter has started over the year. Jona is an active dog walk and has been attending TLC dog walking training class. He is always willing to say yes to running dogs for our large dog playgroup even if he only has fifteen minutes to spare. He is also a part of our long stay task force and actively participate by taking his assigned dog out on field trips. If Jona is not in playgroup or walking dogs he is assisting with bathing medical dogs, cleaning kennels and a variety of other duties. Keep up the great work Jona!

Pepe Is Still Looking For His Forever Home

Pepe is playful and enjoys going to small dog playgroups and running zoomies around the yard! Pepe was seized during a field animal cruelty investigation so he needs patience and extra loving care. Because of this, Pepe will only be adoptable through an application and interview process to ensure the best possible home for him. Better hurry! We will be closing the link soon! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3ZP8P7K

December Events at OC Animal Care Helped 141 Pets Find a Home for the Pawlidays!

OC Animal Care hosted their annual Pawliday Adoption Event and Santa Photos every Saturday during the month of December! The shelter's Pawliday event was a huge success! 141 pets (105 cats, 25 dogs, 6 bunnies and 5 exotic animals) were adopted and found fur-ever homes on Saturday, December 21. OC Libraries joined in the festivities and hosted a booth to raise awareness about their organization. The shelter volunteers also hosted a spinning wheel giveaway booth, bake sale table and even gave away free pets tags to event attendees! We cannot thank everyone enough for adopting and coming out to support OC Animal Care! The shelter also hosted Santa Photos every Saturday in December until Christmas! OC Animal Care offered the public to bring their furry friend down to take a photo with jolly St. Nick to raise funds for the shelter’s medical pets program. A total of $1,344 was raised to help our shelter pets through the Noble Friends Foundation for OC Animal Care! Special thanks to all who came out to take a photo with Santa, and for OC Animal Care’s amazing volunteers who ran the Santa Photo booth!

OC Animal Care Director's Transition

We would like to announce the resignation of Mike Kaviani, current Director of OC Animal Care. Mr. Kaviani has accepted the position of Chief Program Officer for a national non-profit organization and will transition from his role at the County by the end of the year. Mr. Kaviani joined OC Animal Care in August 2018 and has been a valuable member of the County’s team, sharing his animal welfare expertise. His work and contributions have been instrumental in initiating the implementation of OC Animal Care’s Strategic Plan. As a result, OC Animal Care has seen positive outcomes such as an increase in live release rates, expansion of the kitten foster program, and initiation of dog play groups to provide animal enrichment. A recruitment will begin immediately for a permanent replacement. In the interim, OC Animal Care will continue to be guided by its strategic plan, and we are confident the progress and good work will continue. We thank Mr. Kaviani for his service to the County, and we wish him well in his new endeavor.

Read to the Kittens at Orange Public Library!

On Friday, December 13th, OC Animal Care attended reading to the Kittens at the Orange Public Library and History Center. Children of all ages had the opportunity to read their favorite books to some feline friends and learn more about OC Animal Care! The kittens who attended also had a blast getting extra love from the community and volunteers. The Orange Library also collected donation for our furry friends during the event. Afterwards, all the kittens who attended to the library event went up for adoption at the Petco Cattery in Orange. All of them were adopted and found loving homes for the holidays! Thank you OC Public Libraries for your continued support and for helping us raise awareness about OC Animal Care!

Congratulations, November Volunteer of the Month Cathy!

Cathy has been supporting OC Animal Care as a volunteer for 16 wonderful years! She always comes in ready to help in any way she can. She sure knows how to stay busy and whether she is socializing cats, feeding kittens in the nursery, helping at our Petco adoption location, going to events or decorating, she does everything with a smile! Cathy is super creative and crafty and always helps decorate for our events and the holidays. She is also a wonderful foster caretaker who does everything she can to find the purrfect home for her foster kittens. We appreciate everything that she does, which is why Cathy is our November volunteer of the month! Thank you Cathy!

Special Partners Make This Thanksgiving One To Remember!

We would like to give a huge shout out and big thank you to some very special partners outside of our community who helped pull over 150 cats/kittens from OC Animal Care. Our kitties made the trip to Riverside County Department of Animal Services and with assistance from ASPCA and Wings of Rescue some went on a recent flight transport to the Bay area to ARF, Berkeley Humane and Marin Humane! These kitties hopped on a jet plane to find their loving fur-ever homes for the holidays up north! Last week we also worked with Lionel's Legacy and Second Chance Dog Rescue to who pulled 24 dogs, and today the Kris Kelley Foundation rescued 14 of our slider turtles! We are so grateful to have amazing partnerships with these organizations who have helped so many of our pets!

Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips

It's almost time for Thanksgiving! Don't forget about your four-legged family members while you celebrate with your two-legged ones! Here's a few Thanksgiving safety tips to keep your pets healthy and happy during the holiday. FOOD: Many Thanksgiving feast staples are toxic to pets. Turkey skin, onions, raisins, grapes, chocolate, artificial sweetener (xylitol), yeast dough, and particularly fatty foods are toxic to dogs and cats, and can cause potentially fatal health conditions. Keep furry friends away from the table! PARTIES AND GUESTS: If you know your pet gets anxious or over-excited around guests, consider keeping them in a separate room with food, water, and their favorite toy for the duration of the party. Even if your pet is comfortable with guests, make sure you watch the exits as doors open and close. Your furry friend might try to bolt while the front door is open as you greet your guests! Please be sure all of your microchip and licensing information is up-to-date!TRAVEL: If your holiday plans involve traveling elsewhere for multiple days, make sure you'v e made proper accommodations for your pet. Consider boarding them at a pet hotel/boarding house, or hiring a trusted friend to feed and spend time with your pet everyday while you're gone. read more

Congratulations, October Volunteer of the Month Steve!

Meet our October Volunteer of the Month, Steve! Steve has been a volunteer since April 2019, and he’s already a huge asset to our team. When he’s not helping customers at the greeter desk, he’s either helping us organize donations or attending offsite events for the shelter. He’s always very welcoming to everyone he meets, and he goes above and beyond to help those in need. We are so grateful to have Steve as a member of the OC Animal Care Volunteer crew! Congrats again to our Volunteer of the Month, Steve!
