Dogs have a Blast at OC Animal Care Night at Honda Center!

On Sunday, March 4th, we attended OC Animal Care Night at Honda Center. Staff, volunteers and pups went to the Hockey Spot where they rooted for the Ducks, listened to music and met with the Power Players. They won the game, and OC Animal Care won big with all of the donations brought by Ducks fans! It was a day to remember, and all of the doggos who attended the event were adopted! We’d like to give special thanks to our amazing partners, the Anaheim Ducks, for all of their support.

Congratulations February Volunteer of the Month, Tim and Ann!

Please join us in congratulating our February volunteers of the month, the amazing husband and wife team Tim and Ann! This pair of perfect volunteers are retired groomers who bring years of experience and love to our shelter pets. Tim and Ann are exceptionally patient and in just 4 months of volunteering with us have helped groom and beautify more than 30 dogs! Some of the pets they groom are very fearful, uncomfortable or have never been groomed before so it takes them many dedicated hours to help some of our shelter pups become their most beautiful selves. We are so appreciative of Tim & Ann for their incredible efforts to help our shelter dogs look their best and find their forever homes more quickly.

Congratulations to our January Volunteer of the Month, Barbara!

We would like to congratulate Barbara as our January volunteer of the month. Barbara has long been a well-loved fixture at OC Animal Care, assisting with rescue pets and the shelter intervention program as well as extraordinary networking of animals in need to adoption partners. Just a few months ago Barbara decided to branch out and become a volunteer as well at OC Animal Care and specifically in our Greeting assignment. Our Greeters are such an important part of our shelter experience for visitors, and we are so lucky to have Barbara’s smiling face up front to say hello to community members and guide them where they need to go. Despite her busy schedule Barbara has already donated nearly 40 hours to making the shelter experience better for everyone! Let’s all congratulate Barbara as Volunteer of the Month for her extraordinary service to our shelter pets and community! Thank you Barbara!

OC Animal Care's Animal Control Team Works With Local Fire Department to Make an Incredible Rescue

On Saturday, January 13th, Sergeant Detki and Officer Staveley responded to a loose dog that was scared and being evasive. The dog ended up running underneath a very low to the ground sedan and couldn’t get out from underneath it. Anytime the officers tried to help him, he would panic and crawl more into the wheel well. Fire Department was called out to assist and using air bags, the Firemen were able to jack up the vehicle and the dog was safely removed without injury. This little guy, now known as Ink, has joined the shelter’s TLC program. Through this program, trained and experienced volunteers work with dogs to help them break out of their shell. When Ink came into the shelter, he was very fearful, overwhelmed and would not walk on the leash. Some extra TLC has really made a difference! Ink is doing better on the leash each day, loves to give lots of kisses and enjoys getting cuddles from you. We can’t thank all of the amazing people who have helped Ink along the way. You have made such a difference in his life! Click Here to watch Ink's special video!

January is Walk Your Pet Month!

Follow these helpful tips to stay safe and happy while walking your pet:1. Leash and Harness-For everyone's safety, always walk your animal on a leash and make sure they are wearing a collar that suits them. There are a variety of different harnesses and collars that would be appropriate for your pet depending on their size and breed. Choose a leash and collar that is appropriate for your animal with the help of your trainer or vet. 2. Be Prepared-You should always be prepared and bring waste bags to clean up after your pet. On long walks you should always bring water and a water bowl to keep your pet hydrated. -Adjust your animals walking needs to the weather conditions for that day. -Change your walking distance to what’s appropriate for your animal’s fitness level. -On longer walks, be prepared by bringing an animal first aid kit. 3. Have Fun!-Let your animal have fun and explore! Enjoy this time to bond and really learn about their unique and individual personalities.
