It's Getting Cold Outside!

cold dog

Cold weather is in the forecast this weekend! Check out some of our pet safety tips for cold weather:

1. Make Some Noise:

A warm vehicle engine can be an appealing heat source for outdoor cats. Check underneath your car, bang on the hood, and honk the horn before starting the engine to make sure any cats that may be hidden abandon their roost under the hood!

2.  Frostbite and Hypothermia:

Cats and Dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia and should be kept inside. Signs of hypothermia in pets may look like whining, shivering, and slowing down, or if the pet seems weak or stops moving.

3. Injury Prevention:

Check your pet’s paws often for signs of cracked paw pads or bleeding due to cold weather. Consider all-weather dog booties for added protection for your pet’s paws.

4. Outdoor Walks:

Shorten walks and be mindful of elderly pets who may have difficulty walking in colder weather. If your dog has a shorter coat, consider a sweater or dog coat.

5. Cold Vehicles:

Cold cars are just as dangerous as hot cars and pets should not be left unattended in a vehicle.
