OC Animal Care’s first Volunteer of the Month for 2023 is Wynsie Chan!
Wynsie has taken our dog program by storm! She is a very diligent trainer and works with dogs of all types to help them learn manners so they will be ready for their new homes when they get adopted. Wynsie is always ready to jump in where she is needed, whether it be onsite or offsite events, or simply a request for her to work with a certain dog. The next time you see Wynsie, congratulate her for being January Volunteer of the Month and for being an amazing addition to our Dog Team!
Celebrate the new year with a new furry friend by adopting from OC Animal Care! With such successful adoption rates seen during the December 2022 promotion, OC Animal Care is excited to continue waiving adoption fees to highlight and encourage adoptions of dogs 25 pounds and over throughout January 2023.
During the holiday adoption promotion in December 2022, 92 dogs that were 25 pounds and over were adopted compared to 45 dogs in the same weight range in December 2021.
As a municipal shelter, OC Animal Care’s inventory consists of mostly large breed dogs, many of which have medical or behavioral challenges. In December 2022, three special dogs found a home just in time for the holidays thanks in part to the month-long fee waive promotion.
Arriving at the shelter in April 2021, Darling was the longest-stay resident at OC Animal Care. Darling was rescued off the streets by an animal control officer after receiving a call about a dog wandering around, nervous and alone, with nothing but collar and a dangling leash. During her time at the shelter, Darling loved to play tug-of-war with her favorite toys, wear her favorite bandanas around her neck, and spend quality time with staff and volunteers. Darling began her new life with her forever family on December 22.
Lu Lu arrived at OC Animal Care in August 2021 when her owner fell on hard times and could no longer care for her. Being in a new environment, Lu Lu was extremely nervous and scared at first. After Lu Lu became more comfortable, she blossomed into a sweet girl that loved getting back scratches and belly rubs, going on walks, and cuddling on her bed. Lu Lu, and her bright eyes, stole the hearts of her new parents when meeting them on December 20.
After being surrendered to the shelter in August 2022, Bruno became one of the most popular residents at OC Animal Care. Bruno was deaf, but he was incredibly smart and playful. He knew sign language for sit and lay and was a true gentleman when meeting other dogs and people at the shelter. On December 20, Bruno was adopted into a loving family, inheriting multiple four-legged brothers and sisters.
Those adopting dogs 25 pounds and over will have their adoption fee waived, which includes microchipping, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and an anti-parasite treatment. Waived adoption fees do not include licensing fees or puppies six months of age or younger.
The adoption promotion is available to residents of any city. With over 400 adoption visits available per week, potential adopters can schedule an adoption appointment today by calling (714) 935-6848 or drop by for a walk-in visit. Every Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., OC Animal Care continues to spotlight dogs who are ready to find their forever homes at Pooches on the Patio, a meet-and-greet style event, where dogs show-off their large and loveable personalities. Throughout January, Pooches on the Patio will feature dogs that are eligible for the waived adoption fee promotion.

Effective Saturday, December 31 at 10 a.m. an Evacuation Warning (Voluntary) will be issued for Silverado Canyon and Williams Canyon in the Bond Fire burn area due to possible debris flows along or near the burn scar. A map with detailed depictions of the areas under Evacuation Warning (voluntary) can be found at www.ocsheriff.gov/bondfire.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the burn scar area in effect from Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 4:12 a.m. until approximately midnight on Sunday, January 1, 2023 for the expected rain event. The Evacuation Warning (Voluntary) is expected to be in place through the Flash Flood Watch.
Canyon residents are strongly encouraged to prepare and voluntarily evacuate on Saturday, December 31 effective at 10 a.m., especially those with disabilities, access and/or functional needs, and canyon residents with large animals.

OC Animal Care is urging residents located in the Bond Fire burn scar areas to implement and activate their personal plan to get their pets out safely and early. Prepare now to ensure you and your pets are safe by following these steps:
Have a plan – know where your pets can go and how they’ll get there
Pack their bags – have your pet's supplies packed and ready to go
Don’t delay – Large animal owners should move their pets prior to the rain so roads are clear

With the goal of helping furry friends find a home for the holidays, those adopting dogs 25 pounds and over will have their adoption fee waived, which includes microchipping, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and an anti-parasite treatment. Waived adoption fees do not include licensing fees or puppies six months of age or younger.
Over 95 percent of available dogs at OC Animal Care are large breeds and nearly a third of available dogs, including those with longest lengths of stay, have medical or behavioral challenges impacting their adoptability. In November, Fifth District Supervisor Lisa Bartlett sponsored adoption fees for all shelter animals. Through Supervisor Bartlett’s generous donation, community members opened their hearts and homes to 117 dogs that were 25 pounds and over. With such successful adoption rates, OC Animal Care is excited to continue waiving adoption fees to highlight these dogs.
Adopting a dog over 25 pounds may not be possible for every person. Beginning December 10 through December 24, Supervisor Bartlett will sponsor adoption fees for cats, birds, bunnies, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Learn more about Supervisor Bartlett’s adoption sponsorship.

OC Animal Care is proud to announce December’s Volunteers of the Month Tad Lewis and Jackie Wong! We met Tad and Jackie at New Volunteer Orientation in October. They relayed to us that they felt a strong desire to serve animals, and were absolutely certain that they wanted to start with our kittens. Since diligently training in our Kitten Nursery, learning strenuous cleaning protocols, and feeding our precious babies, Tad and Jackie have seamlessly become part of our Kitten Team. Their commitment to the safety and health of these babies is obvious as is their love for our smallest kittens. Congratulations Tad and Jackie! We are grateful to have you!

Stop by the shelter, located at 1630 Victory Road in Tustin, on Saturday, November 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where a few dogs will be out on the patio ready to meet their forever family!
Now is the perfect time to bring home a new furry friend! Thanks to the generous donation from Supervisor Bartlett, all adoption fees will be waived throughout the month of November. Sponsorship includes waived adoption fee, vaccination, a certificate for free vet exam, antiparasitic treatment, spay/neuter, microchip and a bag of pet food (while supplies last).
