Nearly Six Dozen Dogs and Cats Fly to Find Homes in Northern California to Help Make Room for Influx of Animals Following Tropical Storm Hilary

OC Animal Care_Transport

In the wake of Tropical Storm Hilary, 69 pets from OC Animal Care made their way to Northern California to find their forever homes. This emergency flight was made possible through collaborative efforts with Greater Good Charities, Noble Friends for OC Animal Care and eight rescue agencies.

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hilary, OC Animal Care experienced an influx of animals. Since the storm, through Sunday, August 27, over 350 dogs and cats were brought into the shelter, many as a direct result of the storm. This emergency related assistance makes room for the continued influx of injured and displaced pets that continue to arrive at OC Animal Care because of storm related flooding and damage to personal property like downed fences. Only shelter pets that were at OC Animal Care prior to Tropical Storm Hilary were transported on the flight.

Thanks to Good Flights, a program of Greater Good Charities, specializing in life-saving transportation for vulnerable pet populations, these pets, including shelter dogs, cats, and kittens, have been transported by flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport to rescue agencies in the Counties of Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Palo Alto, Sacramento, Solano, San Francisco, San Mateo and Sonoma.

The Noble Friends Foundation for OC Animal Care generously donated kennels for the transportation. These kennels provided secure accommodations for the pets during their journey on the plane, as well as during transit to and from the airports.

Before their travels, OC Animal Care’s veterinary team ensured all pets were well for their journey and ready for adoption through examinations and vaccination.

As they embark on their new beginnings, OC Animal Care extends our gratitude to Greater Good Charities and Noble Friends for OC Animal Care for their pivotal role in giving these pets a second chance.
