I Found Injured Wildlife

While OC Animal Care can assist with many domestic animal concerns, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife does not allow for the relocation of wild animals; therefore, OC Animal Care does not pick up wild animals unless they are sick, injured or are otherwise a risk to public health/safety.

Should you encounter a sick, injured, or aggressive wild animal, do not approach or handle the animal. Please contact us immediately for guidance by calling (714) 935-6848 from 8 a.m. to 5p.m. or (714) 259-1122 from 5p.m. to 8 a.m.

If you encounter a wild animal that needs assistance, you can visit the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website or use Animal Help Now to find a nearby wildlife rehabilitation facility. These organizations are equipped to handle and care for wildlife in need. If the wildlife rehabilitation facility advises, you may be able to transport the animal there directly.

Handling a wild animal can be dangerous to you and harmful for the animal. To protect yourself from disease and injury:

  1. Never approach or attempt to rescue an animal who is behaving abnormally (circling, staggering, etc.) or shows sign of disease (salivating, discharge from the eyes or nose, etc.)

  2. Always wear thick gloves when handling wildlife

  3. Not all animals who appear to be orphaned are actually orphaned. Most times, the mother is nearby and the underaged wild animal is not orphaned or in danger.
