Jane Fonda - “Bringing joy to our family”
Animal Care Success Stories

One week after our beautiful Akita Shepherd mix was hit and killed, we were determined not to let the sorrow we felt over losing her overwhelm us. We realized that the best way to honor her was to save another animal in need. So on March 11, 2007, we made our way to the shelter to do just that. Jane Fonda - a success story

After we had spent time going by all of the cages, we had returned to a three year old female Labrador retriever that was very playful and had caught our eye. We really wanted to take her home, but right at closing time our son pulled us away and brought us to the last cage in the last row of available dogs. He turned to us and said, “We need to save this one.” Our future pet sat there and looked so sad. She had been there for ten days and no one had chosen to take her home. She was the same age as the girl we just lost, so we decided she would be a good addition to our family.

It took some time to get to know each other, but now she is very happy running in our big backyard and getting lots of hugs and kisses. Her personality is very similar to Amber, the dog we lost, but she has her own unique way of bringing joy to our family. Even though we were reluctant to get another dog so quickly, we are glad we found Jane Fonda (a.k.a. Janie).
