Baci - “A good dog gets treats!”
Animal Care Success Stories

About a year ago I found myself lost.  I couldn't find anyone I knew anywhere.  Then a very nice person invited me into their truck and took me to jail.  Jail isn't so bad.  There are lots of nice people to talk to and lots of other dogs there.  I even saw some chickens and heard some cats.  But still, I was looking for someone to take me home.

One day a nice lady came by.  She was looking very sad because she said that to get to the small dogs she had to walk past lots of big dogs that wanted to be chosen to go home with her.  But she came to me.  She talked to me and we decided to check each other out.  One of the shelter people took us to a big cage where I could run and play.  I was awfully afraid I was rude.  I wanted to go see the little kids out there.  I wanted to play with them.  My new Mom almost didn't take me because; well, because I was ignoring her.  But the shelter person said that she could take me home and see how I was there.  Thank goodness she agreed.

After a few days she came back and took me to my new home.  Wow, I have my very own bed and Mom even gets to sleep under the covers with me!  I have toys; I have food, all the food I can eat, which isn't much when you consider I only weigh 6.5 lbs.  I may be small, but I am stubborn and Mom couldn't teach me how to be a good girl very well.  She never had a dog before and didn't know what to do with a hyper Chihuahua.  She made some phone calls and then we enrolled in school- dog school, with the BIG dogs.  I quickly learned how to be a good girl.

People will stop us on the street to ask how Mom got such a good Chihuahua.  She always says she is well trained.  See, if you are a good dog, you get treats.  If you are a bad dog, you get ignored.  Now, I ask you, which would you prefer?  I can sit, heel, down, paws up, go potty, and come, I don't like that one but I do it.  Now that I know how to be a good dog and Mom knows how to be a good mom, we are inseparable.  I even hide in her purse sometimes and go places where dogs aren't supposed to go, but don't tell I am very quiet and stay out of sight until we are outside again.

So, to end my story I want to thank that nice person who took me to jail in that truck.  If I ever see her again, I will run up and show her my tags and tell her thank you with a huge slurp!  Because I got the bestest home ever.

Sincerely, Baci the Chihuahua

Becky
