Upcoming Orientations

Why must I attend an orientation?

OC Animal Care prides itself on our quality volunteers, specifically selected for their passion and love for animals! Each potential volunteer must undergo a recruitment process that ensures the volunteer and OC Animal Care are a good fit for each other. The OC Animal Care Potential Volunteer Orientation is provided to give you information about our program and our shelter services, you will spend roughly 1.5 hours in an informational seminar illuminating the different areas available to volunteer, the last half hour will be a tour of our shelter led by one of our lead volunteers. Attendance at Orientation does not guarantee a spot in the volunteer program, but does give you all of the information you need to become a volunteer at our shelter. Selection, processing and training can take up to two months. We take great pride in the time and training we invest in our volunteers and hope that you will too.

The recruitment process is as follows:

  1. RSVP using the links below to attend an orientation meeting
  2. Submit background check consent & online application (will be emailed to you prior to orientation)
  3. Attend the volunteer orientation
  4. Submit letter of intent (due one week after orientation)
  5. Background checks and letters of intent are assessed (3-14 days)
  6. Volunteers are notified of acceptance
  7. Volunteers attend training at the shelter
  8. Volunteers are now in good standing and may begin volunteering

Orientation meetings are an excellent opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding the volunteer program. There is absolutely no obligation to join the program, although we expect to add several wonderful new volunteers to our team from each orientation!   If you have any questions regarding the volunteer orientation process, please email our Volunteer Program Coordinator.

Background Check Policy

All volunteers must complete a comprehensive background check. All of your information is kept confidential, following county policies on document retention and the redaction of private information from files. This is provided by OC Animal Care at no cost to potential volunteers. Any volunteer with the following items in their background check will not be accepted. Eliminating items include but are not limited to:
